A Message from the President of the American Society of Dowsers
by Tipi Halsey
Here we are, after our annual convention, settling into summer of 2006. Our 46th convention was enjoyed by several hundred members this year-thanks to the many hearts and hands that made it so.
We have some news to report to you for this summer issue. As was announced at convention, we bid a fond farewell to member Craig James, who stepped in as interim Operations Manager at Headquarters in March when Linda Redbird resigned due to health concerns. Craig was ready and available when he was needed, and the Executive Board-who is in charge of staffing-is grateful for all he brought to the position. We wish him the best in his new adventures.
And we welcome member Arvid Johnson to the position as Operations Manager. Arvid brings an arsenal of experience in electronics, management, and personnel with him. He thought he was happily retired after 16 years as an electronics technician at the Post Office, but when the Executive Board called upon him to fill the position of Operations Manager, he was willing. Those who attended convention saw Arvid in action as he moderated the annual membership meeting. He masterfully handled the 200+ members who came and had opinions to share; he also moderated the two Board of Trustees meetings that were held at convention. The Executive Board is grateful and delighted to welcome Arvid to the team, and we look forward to working with him. Arvid lives in Bradford, Vermont.
And finally, Dr. Ron Blackburn, trustee, has added "Vice President" to his duties. Since I was promoted to President when Bill Northern resigned this spring, we were happy to find Ron to fill the vacant VP seat. Ron, a resident of New Mexico, has been a member since 1993 and is a passionate dowser, with lots of great ideas for outreach and growing our membership. As I write this, three trustees, Ron, Bill Northern and Louis Matacia, are at the Psychotronics Conference in Nevada, where they taught a 3-hour workshop on dowsing. They brought L-rods and Y-rods to hand out, and are enjoying being great ambassadors for ASD. Thank you, gentlemen!
On another note, this fall we will be seeking names of members who want to join the board of trustees. So think about devoting some time and energy to this position, especially if you feel you have something to offer our society-and if you personally don't feel the urge, wrack your brain for other dowsers you can bring to the nominating committee. That august body is being formed now, and will be seeking nominations from members nationwide."
My greatest hope for ASD is that we are able to put our personal differences aside and unite toward a common goal of bringing the message of dowsing to the world on a larger scale, while founding peace and fulfillment within. West Coast, East Coast, North and South, let's all join together for the good of each other and our beloved society. We can't be all things to all people, but we can sure try to fulfill as many of our members' needs as is possible. So please, keep the feedback coming in, and join the effort toward unification and higher awareness.
Blessings to all,
- Tipi Halsey
